Will aftermarket batteries work with Canon XSI digital SLR without issue?
I would suggest not to go this route!
Remember, that Canon makes their batteries with their cameras in mind, and aside from actual battery cells, the genuine Canon battery has circuitry to make sure battery does not overheat, overcharge or hit the camera with a high voltage, should something go wrong inside. These batteries are very high capacity, they have enough juice in them to fry your camera, or in rare occasions to cause a fire or explosion. So it is very important to have the battery with all the protection possible. Also Canon batteries have a way of communicating their exact charge level to the camera, which aftermarket batteries may or may not have. This is why Canon batteries are so much more expensive, but if you ask me, they are worth every penny, because there are no unnecessary parts in them, and cheap aftermarket batteries are missing the crucial ones instead.
So ultimately by getting aftermarket batteries you are putting your camera and yourself (in a rare, but possible situation of fire or explosion) to a risk. Plus, if something does go wrong with genuine Canon battery and that messes up the camera - Canon will fix it under warranty. If third party battery mess up your camera, you're out of luck!
All in all, it is absolutely not worth it saving $20-30 on a battery to put at risk a $600 camera. So do yourself a favor, and buy a real thing!
