Why doesnt my wide angle lense take better pictures?
I recently used my very expensive wide angle lens to take a photo of a group football team. The team towards the center was very clear but the ones towards each end seemed a bit blurry - Why is that
Your depth of field was too shallow. In other words, you needed a higher f number (smaller aperture). The people right in front would have been close enough to be in focus for a shallow depth of field, but not the ones farther away on the ends. A smaller aperture would let in less light, so you would also need a longer shutter speed, and a tripod if the shutter speed was too long. Backing up a few feet would also have helped.
Personally, I don't like using wide angle lenses on people. It's too distorting! I see it all the time in the newspaper, too. Some new photographer takes a close shot of someone using a wide angle lens, and makes the person look weird, usually with a huge head and tiny body.
